 Five people, including two children, died due to suffocation after a fire in an apartment in Sharjah, officials said on Monday morning.

The fire gutted an apartment on the first floor of the building in Al Buteenah area, Colonel Sami Khamis Al Naqbi told Gulf News.

Eight people, including one from Comoros Island, were injured in the fire.
The nationality of the victims and the other injured is not immediately known, the bodies have been taken to Al Qassimi Hospital.
